There is an incredible amount of information on the Internet when it comes to developing web pages and web sites — some of it good, a lot of it of it bad. The resources listed below offer a good starting point for web developers and maintainers at UBC.

Books & Courses

The UBC Bookstore carries many good books and magazines on Web site development, and UBC Continuing Studies offers several web, Internet, design, and technology courses.

Site Validation Tools

There are several on-line tools that can help you ensure your site meets common web and accessibility standards:

  • Bobby: Bobby is a Web-based tool that analyzes Web pages for their accessibility to people with disabilities. Use this site to check your pages’ compatibility with screenreader technology.
  • CSS Validator (W3C): Ensure that your Web pages adhere to the proper standards for CSS.
  • HMTL Validator (W3C): Ensure that your Web pages adhere to the proper standards for HTML.

Search Engine Tools

  • SearchEngineWatch.com: This site provides plenty of information about various search engines, from methodology to rankings to history. Also has information on meta keywords.
  • SearchEngineColossus.com: Similar to Search Engine Watch, this site offers information on search engines worldwide.
  • Submit Corner: Features an HTML code generator for meta tags.
