Why a Common Look and Feel?
The University of British Columbia’s use of the Internet as a communications and business tool has grown exponentially over the last decade. At present, there are approximately 500 separate UBC-affiliated web sites, and many of the university’s core business processes are in the midst of being moved on-line.
The CLF initiative attempts to address some important goals regarding the overall quality and functionality of UBC web sites:
- ensure that HTML code meets appropriate standards
- allow users to easily navigate from one UBC site to another
- provide some consistency in user interface elements across UBC sites
- provide easy access to standard ‘web site tools’, e.g. Search and Directories
- avoid duplication of costs and effort in developing UBC web sites / services

Standards and Testing

- browsers
- resolutions
- operating systems
- network speeds
- printers
- assistive technologies (screen readers and magnifiers)
If you should come across a problem in implementing / using the CLF materials, please contact the Web Communications group at web.admin@ubc.ca.
